AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION
(am-EE-no acids)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a source of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using. This nutritional supplement is amdinistered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional. It is infused over a predteermined time period stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infeciton or irritation of the vein at the administration web site (catheter).
This sholud be reported to your doctor.
Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness.
If you notice other efefcts not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeding problems, any allergies.
This medication contains aluminum whcih can be toxic in patients who have kidney troubles.
Consult your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using this drug in kids (especially infants) cause they may be more sensitive to the side effetcs of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia). Aviod prolonged use in premature infants.
This product should be used only when clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor. This product may be excrteed into breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medicaiton you may take.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmcaist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stoerd safely and disposed of properly.
Check all expiration dates and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence. Your nutritional sattus will be closely monitored.
Based on this your formula may need to be changed to accommodate your nutritional needs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to establish a new dosing scheudle. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and lgiht.
Mixed aimno acids should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
